Netflix Recommendations (August 9th 2014)
It's time for another round of Netflix recommendations.
Romancing the Stone- This is the film that Siskel and Ebert said was "The first 'Raiders of The Lost Ark' rip off that was actually good", and I agree 100%. When a romance writer goes to South America to rescue her sister, she gets wrapped up in a wild adventure and runs into a ton of crazy characters. The chemistry between Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas is outstanding and it makes the film that much more fun. If you're looking for some adventure you can't go wrong with Romancing The Stone.
Jesse Stone: Night Passage-Despite being the second film in the series, this is the prequel film which begins the story of Jesse Stone. Jesse is a L,A, cop who relocates to a small town, only to get immersed in one mystery after another. Don't let the fact that this is a made for TV movie fool you, it's well made and has a great cast and story.
The Cable Guy- When this film came out, it was almost universally panned by critics. Through the power of TV and home video it did find its audience. It's the story of a lonely, disturbed cable guy who only wants a new friend , but the one he finds rejects him which sends him over the edge. Jim Carrey and Matthew Broderick and Leslie Mann are great in this film and really bring everything together. Sure it's a bit wacky at times, but that's what makes this film fun.
